Grimsby January 2009

The first competition of 2009 at Grimsby Leisure Centre had a much lower attendance than normal, mostly due to the problem of having to run it so soon after Xmas.  We did manage to run the comp though, despite the heating failure and dive bombing attacks by a moulting pigeon!
The Nightflyers team was the smallest we've sent to an event yet - only 3 people - but I'd like to commend all three for their dedication in turning out so soon after the holidays.
All of our competitors found themselves in closely contended groups, with a very narrow points range deciding the places.  Jamil got our best result, with a deserved 4th place in his group, only 0.2 behind 3rd place and 0.5 off 2nd.  Sophie was well placed in 7th after her set - only 0.3 points separated her from 4th place.  In the vol though, she slipped back to 10th, as her routine did not have the same degree of difficulty as the others in her group.  Our third entrant, Katie, sadly had to pull out with a recurrence of her back injury.  Judging by her routines in practice on Friday, she would have stood a good chance of a trophy in her group, but it wasn't to be.  She stayed around to help recording though, which was greatly appreciated.
Thanks to Kevin and the rest of the Grimsby team for running the comp, and to Keith for judging all day for us.
We've got almost 3 months now to get up to our previous high standards for the next comp, so lets make 2009 a year to remember!

Full results can be found by clicking here.  Also, DE Photo were covering the event, so if you missed you pictures on the day, pop along to the  DE Photo website in a few days time to take a look.  Ask your coaches for the logon name and password.
