| Many thanks to all who came along to the second grading competition of 2009. Attendance is starting to pick up a bit now that everyone is getting used to the new routines - we had over 240 this time, which is a big improvement. This was our first time at the new Portland School in Worksop, which everyone seemed to rate quite highly as a venue, once they managed to find it! | | The competition ran with a slightly modified format from normal, being slightly closer to the way that national and international competitions are organised. This was generally well received, with spectators in particular being given more of a 'show', which all helps to maintain their involvement and support. I'm sure the competitors felt a bit more special as a result of the march-ons and presentations. We'll have a few refinements to the format over the next few events, so please give us your feedback on what you did and didn't like about the event. | | So, on to the Nightflyers. We entered a team of 17, with a number of you competing for the first time. Our performances showed a definite improvement over the previous competitions with the new routines, with some especially impressive results from a number of our team. Lauren showed that all the hard work she put in in the weeks leading up to the competition were worthwhile, with our best result of the day, while our other medallists, the Under 13 Grade G team deserve a special mention for the fact that most of them were competing against girls who would have normally been in a higher age group. | | Despite the lack of other placings, there were some memorable performances from several of our competitors. Madeline did brilliantly, finishing in 4th place at her first competition, and getting a qualifying score too. Finley only just missed out on a medal with his 4th place, while Katie was in a very strong 1st place after the first round, but dropped down to 5th due to a mistake in her vol. Charlotte continued her excellent progress at grade D, finishing 3rd after the preliminary rounds, despite having the lowest tariff in the group. Becky was doing well in her grade, in 5th place after the set, but a dodgy crash-dive landing in her vol sadly put her out of contention. She did give us all a laugh though. Finally a special mention for Niki who, although coming last in her group, should still view the fact that she completed both routines on her return to competing so soon after her injury problems, as a major achievement and a testament to her determination. | | Many thanks as usual to the organisers - in this case Ray and his team at Bassetlaw - for all their hard work. | | Nightflyers results are below - click here for the full results | | See you at the next comp! | | |
